Join the 黑料头条 SE for a day of education at Summershade Farm in Madison, GA!
Attendees will be given the history of the farm before a demonstration on plein air water coloring and sketching led by McLean Jenkins.
The course will provide instruction and demonstration of in situ architectural sketching in graphite and ink, and for the expressive use of watercolor to augment the hand sketch. Emphasis will be given to a loose, gestural style of both sketching and painting rather than strict measured drawings. Following the instructor鈥檚 demonstration, each participant will select a vignette to do timed pencil/ink sketches of a given subject, and then add watercolor washes to the sketch(es). The approach is meant to encourage intuitive and loose hand drawing for an architect鈥檚 everyday recording of significant built work.

Suggested Supply List:
8.5 x 11 or larger hot press watercolor pad (can be spiral bound or block), 150 lb. (or more) weight
Pencils (recommend F or H, and a softer HB and 2B)
Pens with waterproof (black) ink
Small receptacle to hold water
Watercolor brushes (small and large), either synthetic or sable
Paint mixing tray (small is fine)
Either a watercolor starter kit with various paints or single tubes with color suggestions below:

McLean Jenkins is an architect with 黑料头条 Member Firm D. Stanley Dixon, Architect in Atlanta, Georgia.
McLean, a Charlotte, NC native, has helped the firm expand its practice to Atlanta, where he has lived for the last 11 years. He received his Bachelor of History from Davidson College, NC and then his Master of Architecture from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
McLean鈥檚 passion for both disciplines is demonstrated not just in his work for the firm, but in his art: he has won several awards for his drawings and watercolors, including the J. Neel Reid Prize awarded by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation. In addition to extensive travel in Italy, he has also lived and worked in Prague and seeks to add to his travel adventures with his lovely wife and interior designer, Laura. Together with their son, Archer, and standard poodle, Louis XIV, they make their home in Grant Park.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
路 Sketch an architectural subject in short time intervals with an emphasis on overall composition and a subject鈥檚 essence.
路 Apply a less-is-more approach to mark making to focus compositional strength.
路 Mix and apply watercolor paints and get comfortable with the medium.
路 Apply paint strategically to a pencil or pen & ink sketch to create visual depth and focal points.
